Our Story
Diablo Dorado Jewellery Art & Design was founded in 2024 by Dafne Avendaño Pérez, a designer and metalsmith originally from Mexico City, now based in Vancouver, BC.
Considered from a young age a person with great creative energy, she fell in love with art when she discovered the power that comes within.
Her passion for creativity took root in her hometown of Mexico City, where she attended an artistic high school and explored various art forms and techniques. She later pursued a Bachelor’s Degree in Art History, which helped her develop critical thinking skills in both academic and artistic fields. In 2021, she moved to Vancouver to study Jewellery Art and Design, and today she creates her pieces in her studio located in Vancouver, BC.
Growing up in Mexico City—a place rich in contrasts, history, and culture—Dafne’s work is deeply influenced by the city’s unique blend of life, death, myths, legends, surrealism, and chaos. These elements spark her creativity and inspire the distinctive worlds she weaves into her jewellery.
Her art is also shaped by the concept of intersectionality, which acknowledges that people's identities and life experiences are multi-faceted and interconnected. For Dafne, this includes her roots in Mexico, her life in Vancouver, her passions, curiosities, and the cultural traditions that form the cornerstone of her artistic practice.
"I carry the history of all my ancestors within me—my mother’s strength, my sister’s love, my father’s journeys, my aunties legends, and the memories of my hometown that live in my mind and shape my bold identity. It would be impossible to be away from México and not speak of my roots, my home, and the rich collage of experiences that continue to define me.
And now, living in Vancouver, I am constantly navigating the intersection of these two worlds. Vancouver, with its serene landscapes and multicultural pulse, has added a new layer to my identity.
Each piece I create is influenced by this beautiful blend—my Mexican background, my experiences in Canada, and the layers of womanhood, culture, and history that integrate in my life. These identities do not exist in isolation, but rather come together to form a unique perspective that defines my art. I'm from la Ciudad de México, and I can’t deny that a bit of the devil still lives inside me."
